You’ve got 14 tabs open, your Notes app is overflowing with brainstorms, and your brain? So, you are basically a ping-pong table for ideas.
Yep I’ve been there.
If you’re feeling all over the place trying to figure out what business to start, you’re not alone. I’ve worked with so many creatives who are brilliant, multi-talented, and full of potential, only to find themselves completely stuck in indecision.
Here’s the thing: having a lot of ideas doesn’t mean you’re confused. It means you’re creative. But when you have creativity without clarity? That’s a recipe for burnout and second-guessing every move you make.
I know because I’ve been in that same swirl. At one point, I had a running list of potential careers such as a wedding planner, interior stylist, event designer, floral artist, you name it. I could picture a beautiful version of my life in each lane. But every time I tried to choose, I’d freeze or dip my toe in but never fully commit. What if I picked the wrong one? What if I wasted time? What if I changed my mind?
What helped me shift wasn’t just picking a niche or forcing a decision, it was giving myself structure without pressure. I started using a method that helped me move from mental chaos to real clarity. That method eventually helped me build a six-figure business and now, I use it with clients every day.
Let me walk you through it.
Why You’re Feeling Scattered (and What That Really Means)
Let’s be honest: most of us aren’t just chasing clarity. We’re chasing speed. We want to know which idea is going to work, which one will make money fastest, and which one will get us to the life we want with the least amount of wasted effort.
Totally valid. But here’s the thing, when you’re moving fast without alignment, it’s easy to get stuck in a loop. You pick an idea, second-guess it, try another one, get overwhelmed, and end up doing… nothing.
The real goal isn’t to pick the “perfect” idea, it’s to pick the one you’re actually willing to show up for. Even on the messy days.
So let’s take the pressure off and get clear, step by step.
Step 1: Brain Dump Everything (No Filter!)
Open a doc, grab your favorite pen, or talk it out with your voice notes. Whatever works, we just want to get all of your ideas out of your head.
Don’t judge them. Don’t rank them. Just let them spill.
Pro tip: Set a 20-minute timer and treat it like a free-write. No one’s grading this.
The point is to stop juggling everything mentally so you can see what you’re working with.
Step 2: Highlight Your Top 5
Now that you’ve got your big idea soup in front of you, pick your top 5. These are usually the ones that:
- You can’t stop thinking about
- Feel the most fun or exciting
- Align with your existing skills or passions
For each one, ask yourself:
- What would I actually be doing day-to-day?
- What would it take to get this off the ground?
- Would I enjoy this a year from now or am I chasing a trend?
- Could this idea evolve with me?
You’ll notice certain ideas start to feel heavier and some feel a little lighter. That’s your intuition talking.
Step 3: Narrow Down to 3, Then Pick 1
Once you’ve assessed each idea, it’s time to get a little ruthless (in a loving way).
First, pick your top 3. Then go do something else like take a walk, make a snack, talk to your dog. Let it breathe.
When you come back, ask yourself: If I had to start one of these tomorrow, which one would I pick?
That’s your one.
If you still feel unsure, try this: talk through each idea out loud, like you’re pitching it to a friend. If one sounds clunky or confusing, it’s probably not your winner. If one flows effortlessly and lights you up? That’s the one.
Step 4: Define Your Core Promise
Alright so, you’ve got your idea. Now it’s time to get clear on the promise behind it.
Ask yourself:
- What am I helping someone achieve?
- What problem am I solving?
- What do I want to be known for?
Keep it simple. Keep it human.
Instead of: “I do branding, marketing, and website design,” try: “I help creatives build a digital presence that books better clients.”
Boom. Clear. Confident. Unforgettable.
Step 5: Take One Gentle Action
Here’s the part where most people stall. They want to feel fully clear before taking any action.
But honestly? Clarity comes from movement. Not from sitting on your couch overthinking every option.
So take one small action:
- Grab the domain name
- Set up a simple Notion board
- Draft your first service
- Claim your IG handle
You’re not launching a full business today, you’re just choosing momentum over perfection.
And that choice? It’s everything.
A Real-Life Example: When I Picked One Idea and Went All In
Remember my list of dream jobs? Wedding planner, event designer, floral stylist, you name it.
Eventually, I looked at all of it and asked: What’s something I can pour my energy into right now, without overthinking it?
Surprisingly, the answer was… balloons.
Yep. Balloons.
I went all in. I created a portfolio, priced my work, built a client experience, and started showing up with full energy. Within six months, that one decision turned into a booked-out, six-figure business.
And now? I help other creatives build businesses with that same mix of strategy, softness, and aligned clarity.
Are you Still Feeling Foggy?
If your brain’s still doing backflips after reading this, that’s okay.
You’re not behind. You’re just in the middle of building something that actually feels like you. And that takes time.
Once you’ve landed on your idea, the next step is making sure your online presence says “I’m ready for business.”
